the great white north

It's kind of crazy writing about the great white north right now - it has been beautiful.  It was a sun shiny 12 degrees today.  Okay, that may not be much compared to home down south, but for here, it is great.  We are loving it.
Here are a few highlights of what is going on here lately - both cold and warm!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - you can't better than a prairie sunset.  It is amazing how often we get the most gorgeous sunsets ever.  This one is completely untouched/unedited.
We have been waiting for good northern lights since we got here and finally, a two weeks or so ago, we got them.  They still weren't as crazy good as they can be, but they were dancing.  It was right before Cade went to bed, and Lucy was already asleep.  But we woke her up.  It just needed to happen.  I didn't bother trying to take pictures of the actual lights themselves because compared to my cute kids, the lights were nothing!

The nice weather has brought out all the kids again.  Lots of playing outside.  It is so nice to have that activity again.

After about a week and a half of really nice spring, we got a big dump of snow and some days of nasty cold again.  By then Eric had already set up the trampoline.  Apparently snow on the trampoline still is a lot of fun.  Perhaps more!

That snow is all gone again and we are hoping that it now stays away for a good long time.  We are ready for summer to come!

pie (or pi, that is)

It isn't often you hear of a fabulous high school math teacher.  It just doesn't seem to compute (see what I did there?).  But Maddy has one.  Every Monday he has Muffin Monday where he brings muffins in for all of his students - a different type each time - that he makes!
He also texted all of his students at 9:26 on Saturday morning to wish them a Happy Pi Day.  Yes.  In fact, it was a fairly monumental Pi day, especially at 9:26.  It was 3.1415926 when he texted.  3/14/15 at 9:26.  Pretty clever.  Won't happen again for 100 years.
Eric, the even-more-clever, thought it must have been a banner day on March 14, 1592 at 6:53.  And that will never ever happen again.
We are geeks.

disney - it's not a small world after all

I am blessed.
I have such wonderful friends.

A few months ago my darling friend Rachel asked if Mia and I wanted to meet up with her and her daughter Tatum (Mia's best buddy from back home in Fairfield) in Florida.  Tatum was in a gymnastics competition but they were going for extra days to enjoy Disney, etc.  All we needed to do was fly out there to join them.  So we did!!  We gave Mia the trip for her Christmas present, and I guess we gave it to me as well!

I've put off blogging about this time because it is so hard to describe a time like this - especially when every time you think about these friends you start to tear up because you miss them so much.  So for now I'll be writing just a few minor comments.  Perhaps when this year's worth of post turns into a book I'll write more.  But honestly, for now I just can't do it.  So we'll let the pictures speak their 1000 words.  And speaking of pictures, all of the good ones are taken by Rachel!  Oh, the pictures aren't even in chronological order which is extremely irritating, but I am too lazy to change them at this time.

Ghirardelli.  Every. Day.

Tatum competed on Friday morning (we got there Wednesday night - Jan. 21) and it was so great to watch.  She is amazing and did really well.

Terrible picture - but it is Ariel, so one had to be taken….
