workin' for the land

Yesterday we joined the Giesbrecht relatives for a haulin' good time out at our cousin and uncle's land.  We unstacked, hauled and restocked a lot of wood.  And it was great.  Perfect fall day.  Cool enough to not get hot and sweaty, no bugs, complete with the crisp air and smell of pine and leaves.

Eric drove until we came across a stack of wood.  Then we all hopped out and loaded the truck bed full, drove back to the camp site and unloaded it there.  Eric thought it would work to flip the truck in reverse and slam on the breaks to unload.  It didn't work so great.  Good thought.  Bad execution.  Manual was better.  And thankfully no one got badly smashed toes or fingers or a log to the head.  That would have been bad, by the way.

After the labor, we had a wiener roast dinner in celebration of Brent's birthday.  One of the best things in fall - a wiener roast out in the woods.  I love it.
While eating, Maddy instigated playing What Are The Odds with Cole and Cade.  It ended up with Brooklyn drinking 7up mixed with powder from hot chocolate.  And Cade acting like Vader (the dog) for five minutes.  Rather humorous.  At least humorous until Vader went into the pond.  Then it got cold.  For Cade at least.  Thankfully Vader isn't the swimming type - more the lapping kind.

Maddy also did some studying for a biology exam.  And Cade warmed his feet by the fire.  Even though Vader didn't.
It was a fabulous, fun filled time.
Unfortunately I am now bed ridden with extreme back pain.
Good times.
